Does your Elementary School Celebrate Halloween?

I'm a little miffed today.
Our neighborhood Elementary school recently announced that Halloween celebrations will no longer be allowed during school hours. To me, this is soooo sad.
No more classroom parties.
No more Halloween parades through the hallways.
No more costume contests.
No more sharing with friends what each other will be wearing to Trick or Treat in.
No more fun.

It feels like the minority is making the rules for the majority, and we're losing something really fun and wonderful about childhood.

I'm curious. What rules about Halloween does your school have?

I really hope Valentines Day isn't the next Holiday on the chopping block...but it could be. It involves a Saint afterall.

If you have an opinion on this subject, leave a comment. Share or vent your thoughts. I'd love to hear them.

  1. It is ridiculous, isn't it! When my kids were in grade school (they're now seniors) they didn't do a Halloween costume parade; they called it a Character parade & the kids came dressed as their favorite book character (but there will still plenty of witches & skeletons!) The didn't really enforce the book theme, but it avoided the "Halloween" concept.

  2. It's ridiculous.
    Same here.
Our school let you dress as a theme of a book you were reading. You just had to find a book to match the costume.
Too p.c. is taking all the fun out of it.

  4. Thankfully at our elementry school they still have a parade (and all of the teachers dress up too) and in one of my son's classes they had cider, donuts and a sing-a-long that parents were invited to. As much as I enjoyed all that was offered on Friday I realize now after reading your post how much I have to be greatful for the fact that we are still able to do this in our community.
