Gravestone Rubbings

A couple of weekends ago, I was in Seattle with my husband and two kids. We knew that the famous guitar God, Jimmy Hendrix was from Seattle, and buried there. So, we decided to find the cemetary and pay our respects.

Jimmy is buried with a few of his relatives, and the monument is quite large.
Large engravings of Jimmy surround a central pedestal — where on that day several guitar picks and flowers had been left by those paying their respects before us.

We did something a little different and brought sidewalk chalk and crayons along, with some large white sheets of paper and did "rubbings" of his headstone.

Crayons made some beautiful images,

But is was charcoal on newsprint that produced the best images of all.

When we got home, my daughter hung some of the images at the Local Chapter of School of Rock, and my husband shared some with war Veterans from the 60's. We also gave one to my son's guitar teacher.

If you're ever in Seattle and would like to visit the grave, look up Greenwood Memorial Park, Renton Washinton.
