Cool Hands, Warm Hearts

At the Children's Hospital, we created handprints using the theme
"Cool Hands, Warm hearts and The Things We Love."

We began with a concentric circle template from Kathy Barbro: Art Projects for Kids. I altered the template by adding a heart in the center and made several copies onto bright white cardstock.

The children traced their hands onto the template using a black sharpie marker then filled in the shapes with water soluable oil pastels.

Water Soluable Oil Pastels can be blended to look like water colors.

Some of the children wrote words in the center of their hearts, while others added ultra fine glitter.
In the Preschool group, a few of the mothers traced their hand next to their child's hand. Very sweet. It made me remember a poem my 3 year old son brought home one year with his little handprint.
Priceless.
My Handprints

Sometimes I might upset you
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
on furniture and walls.

But everyday I grow a bit
And soon I'll be so tall
That all those little fingerprints
Will be so hard to recall.

So here's a special handprint
Just so that you can say
This is how my fingers looked
When I placed them here today
