The illustration was done by a 3rd grader. It's titled: Flaming Cat. Medium: Chalk pastels and white tempera paints on black paper. Based on the 3rd grade art lesson, "How Shapes Fit Together." To view the lesson plan click here.
Thanks to those of you who cast a vote for poster choices! (See previous post below).

It's time to select the poster art for our school annual Student Art Show. It's a tough decision but I've narrowed it down to 5 pieces (out of 700).

To help decide which piece of art will work the best, I prepare mini mockups of how the finished poster could look. I rough in a headline, and think about placement for other important pieces of information such as the date and time.

I also wonder how the image might be cropped. If it's a 3-D piece, that makes things a little more challenging to work with!

Some images are easier to work with type treatments then others. I love this piece but gave up on trying to place a headline. There's just so much going on, it's difficult to see where a headline would work.

This'll be random, cuz I just came across your blog yesterday, but I'm casting my vote! My fave is the clay face...eye-catching, unusual, and love the text behind. Looking forward to visiting your blog!
